Ensure the safety and reliability of your electric vehicle

The number of electrical components in the automotive industry has grown exponentially over the past 60 years. But with the fierce development of the electric vehicle, electrified propulsion has led to high-voltage emissions and an increased number of wireless signal and data transmissions. Automakers must address the critical challenge of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) to ensure electric vehicles are safe and reliable.

In this webinar, Koen de Langhe, Director of Product Management for Electronics Systems Simulation at Siemens Digital Industries Software, and Erica Van Berkum, Senior Product Manager for Capital Electrical Distribution at Siemens Digital Industries Software, will present how OEM engineering departments can support electric wire harness design and verification using simulation.

Emerging technologies take electronic performance to the next level

New power electronics system designs based on materials such as gallium nitride (GaN) are emerging, aiming at a higher level of performance. However, these new technologies also come with new EMC challenges. Primarily conducted emission from the inverter remains a challenge for the EMC engineers and must be accurately understood. Using a circuital electrical simulation of the electric powertrain systems, engineers can simulate the critical electrical currents up to several 100MHz in critical cables.

Utilizing a comprehensive digital twin to address EM noise radiation

After a first system-level analysis that aims at modeling the overall electrical system using a 1D simulation tool, the next step is to establish an end-to-end workflow using specific tools for harness design, 3D CAD, and 3D simulation. Critical common mode currents resulting from the circuital simulation can be applied as current sources in a full 3D model of the vehicle and harness. As a result, the propagation of EM energy from the source (i.e., high voltage cable) to the victims (e.g., data communication cables, sensors) can be fully understood and problems mitigated.

The Siemens Xcelerator portfolio is unique regarding EMC analysis of electrified vehicles. It provides design and verification capabilities of all key electrical powertrain system components such as inverters, batteries, cables, and motors at different levels of abstraction. Using Simcenter, engineers can build a full vehicle-level 3D model that includes wire harnesses with the highest EMC accuracy. With this integrated set of capabilities, engineers can adequately understand and mitigate EMC concerns efficiently and effectively.

... Leer más
