Manufacturing companies across many industries are employing RFID to achieve major benefits, both in their supply chains and in their factory operations. Hear how leading manufacturing firms are using RFID to achieve benefits today.

11:00 AM Welcome and Introduction

Speaker: Mark Roberti, Founder and Editor, RFID Journal

11:05 AM Improving Workflow at Manufacturing Facility With RFID

A manufacturer of tires is utilizing Wi-Fi-based tags to locate components for its 500,000-square-foot passenger car and light truck (PLT) tire-assembly plant, reducing the amount of time workers spend searching for parts and ensuring that they are used before expiring. In 2010, the firm deployed the system to help reduce the time its staff spent searching for containers filled with components needed for tire assembly, and to decrease the amount of waste by providing alerts when parts need to be used before becoming too old. Learn how the system helps the factory maintain an optimal level of material and component inventory on the shop floor, by providing visibility into when part stock is running low.

11:40 AM RFID for Equipment Yard Management

A manufacturer of agricultural chemicals and fertilizers distributes its products using various pieces of equipment, such as sprayers, conveyors and dispensers, which are stored and managed within its equipment yards. Before selecting a system to track which equipment was in its yard, and how often the various pieces of equipment were used, the company often experienced underutilized assets, delayed customer response times and unnecessary purchases of new equipment. Hear why the firm chose an RFID-enabled yard-management solution to automatically track equipment inventory in real time. Learn how that system, the location to which it is delivered, when it is returned and how frequently it is used.

12:05 PM RFID Speeds Vehicles Through Assembly

Troy Design & Manufacture (TDM), a subsidiary of Ford Motor Co., is using an RFID-based solution to reduce the amount of labor time employees spend manually tracking work-in-progress (WIP) on paper. Three years after installing the system at the new plant—which converts various vehicles from Ford Motor Co. into Police Interceptor models—TDM found that the solution saves five to seven seconds from each workstation process compared with the amount of time required to perform bar-code scans, as well as enabling personnel to focus on the value-based work at hand. As a result, the firm has managed to outperform its expected production rates. Hear how RFID is being used to improve WIP data accuracy, reduce labor times and increase production output rates.

12:35 PMEngine Plant Improves Component Machining Processes Via RFID

While launching two major engine programs, a manufacturer has replaced conventional vision- and probe-based track-and-trace and part-type verification hardware at its Tonawanda engine plant with an RFID system providing reliable, comprehensive in-process verification and tracking capability. Bolted to engine blocks and heads, an RFID tag travels through dozens of machining and inspection processes, such as drilling, tapping, reaming, milling or washing, and provides pre-requisite information and part-type verification to each operation before any work is performed. Understand the benefits of the RFID system in handling non-conforming material and implementing rework or prototype strategies. Learn how the system ensures parts are properly manufactured, provides detailed track-and-trace data, saves the firm money and, more importantly, eliminates costly errors.

... Leer más
